Middletown, Odessa, and Townsend Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Delaware
Middletown, Odessa and Townsend are located in southern New Castle County. Forming a triangle, Middletown, Odessa and Townsend (or MOT to local residents) are part of a fast growing area where farmland is being converted into residential communities. Rural charm and small town values are evident everywhere, as is an appreciation and preservation of the past. Middletown is the largest of the three towns. Originally one square mile when the town was incorporated in 1861, it was known as the "Diamond Town of the Diamond State." The Appoquinimink School District, serving MOT children as well as those in surrounding areas, is located in Middletown. It is the fastest growing school district in the state. Odessa is known for its historic 18th and 19th century homes found along Main and Second Streets. Four homes have been converted into Winterthur museums. The Brick Hotel Gallery features a large collection of 19th century highly ornate furniture. Odessa was a stop along the Underground Railroad. Townsend has agricultural roots with a large grain elevator in the center of town. It is the smallest of the three towns at half a square mile in size. Townsend was famous for its peaches, shipping more than 800 bushels a day during the 6-8 week peach season. The peach trees are gone by the unhurried pace of life in Townsend remains, reminding residents and visitors of life in the 1950s. Middletown, Odessa and Townsend are centrally located for commuting to Wilmington, Dover, Newark, Philadelphia or Baltimore. Delaware beaches are also in close proximity. By making Townsend, Odessa or Middletown your home you escape to the charm of small town America where a relaxed lifestyle is yours every day.
